Weight Loss Groups
Weight Loss Groups
There are many weight loss groups - both for profit and non-profit organizations. Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig are examples of for profit groups. Overeaters Anonymous is a non-profit weight loss group. There are also support groups run by local churches and hospitals.
Each support group is run differently. Some have a 12-step program while others are simply a way to get together and discuss weight loss challenges and successes. Some weight loss group focus on specific pre-packaged meals or special menus, while others teach people how to eat regular foods in a healthy way. The best type of group will offer instruction on how to make healthy choices at a restaurant, how to plan healthy meals, and how to grocery shop properly.
Most weight loss groups provide counseling, emotional support, useful information, and problem-solving.
Weight loss groups can be beneficial as a way to learn more about how to succeed. A weight loss group also requires accountability and provides a support system. Some people find they have a better time losing weight when they know they are not alone in their struggles, and when they have to report back to someone else about how they did on their diet.
