Safe Weight Loss
Safe Weight Loss
If you are overweight, you have an increased risk of illness and disease. If you can lose weight, those risks will be reduced.
Talk to Your Doctor
Your doctor or nutritionist can help you set realistic goals for weight loss and diet. Your diet should be customized to you - based on your height, build, age, and lifestyle.
A healthy and realistic plan would be to lose 1-2 pounds each week. Any more than that generally means you are either losing water, or muscle mass.
Exercise
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Use up more calories that you are eating. Every little bit helps - take the stairs instead of the elevator, park farther away in the parking lot, practice deep breathing. Whatever you do - make sure it's something you enjoy and can do consistently.
Eat Less Fat and Sugar
Sugars and too much fat should not be part of a healthy diet. For safe weight loss, simply cut calories by reducing fats and sugars. Fried foods, fast food and fatty desserts will quickly add on the pounds. Plus, they do not provide necessary nutrients.
Eat a Wide Variety Of Foods
Variety in what you eat helps you get a more balanced diet - getting all of the vitamins and minerals that you need.
Expect Weight Loss to Take Time
Fad diets are not good because they provide unrealistic expectations and sometimes are limited in proper nutrition. Expect your weight loss to take time and effort. You didn't become overweight in a day - and you won't become fit in a day either - but every day adds up.
What About Diet Pills?
Diet pills you buy without a prescription may help you curb your appetite and lose weight initially. But for long-term weight loss it's better to follow a safe and healthy diet plan. If you do choose to use diet pills, make sure to read the labels carefully and consult with your doctor before starting anything. Some diet pills can interact with prescriptions or may be dangerous for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, or thyroid problems.
Prescription diet pills may also help some people. If you use them, follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Safe weight loss will take time and effort. Don't give up. Find the diet that fits your lifestyle and is something you can do long-term. A diet should make you feel better and more healthy.
