Low-carb diets are some of the most popular diets today. Numbers of low-carb dieters continue to grow rapidly.

Low-carb diets restrict carbohydrate consumption - based on the idea that eating too many carbs affect insulin levels which contributes to obesity. Under a low-carb plan foods such as grains, sugars and starches are limited and replaced with foods with higher protein, fat and fiber.

One of the most popular low-carb diet is the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet helps the body burn more fat and lose weight. It is quite a restrictive diet and some find it difficult to follow, while others swear by its effectiveness and find it easy. The Atkins plan also provides for longer-term maintenance rather than just returning to your previous pattern of eating.
