Grapefruit Diet
Grapefruit Diet
The Grapefruit Diet, also referred to as the Hollywood Diet, is an 18-day diet and goes back to 1930.
The Grapefruit diet is a fad diet that gained popularity again in the 1970s. Studies have shown that eating grapefruit can help patients lose weight - an average of 3.6 pounds in 12 weeks.
A study lead by Dr. Ken Fujioka in 2004 indicated that grapefruit does appear to reduce insulin levels and therefore help in weight loss.
One theory is that because grapefruit is a low-GI food, it helps the body to burn fat. Studies have not been conclusive about the effectiveness of eating grapefruit on weight loss efforts because in some studies it has shown that participants increased exercise - which could also account for any weight loss.
